Attorney Dan Kiss was born and raised in Windber Pennsylvania, Somerset County. The grandson of two coal miners and the son of a factory worker and a secretary for the school district, Dan is the second of four boys born to Bob and Karen Kiss.
After excelling academically and in both, basketball and track and field at Windber High, Dan accepted an offer to run for Susquehanna University (Selinsgrove, PA) and legendary track coach Jim Taylor. A three-time letter winner for the Crusaders, Dan graduated in 2003 with a degree in Political Science.
Dan attended law school at Ohio Northern University (Ada OH) where he was active in Moot Court, earning the Order of the Barrister award upon graduation in 2007, which is annually given to the top ten percent of graduating law students nationwide who exhibit excellence in trial advocacy.
After passing the July 2007 Pennsylvania Bar Exam, Dan began his employment with the Blair County District Attorney’s Office in early 2008 under District Attorney Richard Consiglio. He was the County’s child abuse prosecutor and responsible for protecting our children and ensuring harsh penalty for sex offenders. Dan had a tremendous prosecution record including some of the largest sentences given to a sex offender in Blair County history. His prosecution of David Helsel resulted in the first known instance of a life sentence without the possibility of parole for a sex offender in Pennsylvania history. Although that sentence was modified on appeal, Helsel received a 75-150 year sentence. Dan’s work was responsible for putting hundreds of child abusers, child pornography possessors, and sex offenders into state prison during his five years as an Assistant District Attorney.
In 2013, Dan left the District Attorney’s Office to practice law at the Law Offices of Steven P. Passarello, Esq. in Altoona where Dan works every day to fight for the rights of Central Pennsylvanians. From gun rights, to religious rights, to personal rights guaranteed by the Constitution, to taking on big corporations Dan and Steve have been at the cutting edge of Pennsylvania law.
Dan met his wife and the love of his life, Holly in 2012. The daughter of a Methodist Pastor and granddaughter of a Brethren Pastor, Holly has lived all over Central Pennsylvania. Dan immediately knew she was the one and after dating for two years they married at the Baker Mansion in Altoona on the two-year anniversary of their first date. The couple lived in Huntingdon Borough over two years, moving to Altoona in July 2016 along with their two long-haired wiener dogs Fritz and Frankie. Their son Joseph was born less than a week later.
In addition to keeping up with a toddler, Dan takes great pride in the large garden he and his wife keep, hunting, running, and spending time with his family. Having worked at a door factory every summer and winter break in college and law school, Dan appreciates the value of a hard days work. Dan and his wife volunteer for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, organized card drives for our troops overseas, participates in Out of the Darkness walks in remembrance of Patricia L. Blair, Holly’s sister, and recently donated 400 cookies for the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Event.
Dan looks forward to meeting folks all across the district and working with them to make Central Pennsylvania a better place. He will fight for our values and will always put our area first. He looks forward to bringing Central Pennsylvania back to work. A fighter, a leader, and a winner, Dan Kiss is ready to take on the battle in Harrisburg for you.
